Shiny hair benefits from Papaya Banana DIY hair mask

PONY-O Ponytail Holders: DIY Papaya, Banana and Honey Hair Mask for Dry, Brittle Hair

Include PONY-O in your hair health routine!

At PONY-O, we’re all about the health of your hair. That’s why it’s our mission to create non-damaging products for your hair. We take it even a step further by testing DIY hair masks for you so you don’t have to!

Hair masks are expensive, so finding one that works for your hair while saving some money is a win-win! Same with the PONY-O: a pack of 50 elastics might seem like a good buy until they break or stretch out of shape after one use, not to mention the damage they do to your hair. PONY-O products are durable and designed to last hundreds of uses and cost only pennies per wear. Pairing a DIY hair mask with PONY-O hair accessories will get you on the road to healthier, happier hair!

For this mask you’ll need:

  • Papaya
  • Banana
  • Honey
  • PONY-O

WHY PAPAYA?

Not only is papaya delicious, but it’s also extremely healthy for your hair. There are so many benefits to adding it to your hair routine.

  • Papaya is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Vitamin A is the star of the show, because it hydrates and nourishes the hair from root to tip, conditioning dry brittle hair. It also works as a great natural hair conditioner, keeping the hair soft and supple.
  • Papaya is extremely beneficial for treating dandruff, which is mostly caused by a dry scalp. Rich in vitamin A and C, Papaya encourages healthy cell turnover and facilitates the removal of dead skin cells. Papaya’s antifungal properties also help control and prevent dandruff, itchy scalp, dryness, flaking and more.
  • Papaya can help tremendously strengthen the hair’s cuticle and lessen concerns such as breakage, split ends and hair loss. Cuticles are the outermost layer of the hair shaft, and maintaining their health plays a significant role in adding shine to your hair.
  • Papaya is rich in folic acid, helping improve blood flow to the scalp. This nourishes and rejuvenates the hair follicles, stimulating them to grow new hair.

WHY BANANAS?

Bananas are packed with nutrients, including vitamins A, B, C, E to hydrate and fortify fine hair, and biotin. Biotin, a B vitamin, improves hair health, including shine and volume for thinning hair. Bananas are also rich in minerals, such as potassium, magnesium and calcium to give your hair a boost in texture, thickness, and shine, and silica to help your body synthesize collagen to  make your hair stronger and thicker.

Like it’s mask-mate Papaya, Bananas also have antimicrobial properties that can heal flaky and dry scalp, relieving dandruff symptoms. The antioxidants in bananas can also infuse your scalp and hair with a stronger defense system and decrease oxidative stress, a major cause of making hair look brittle and aged.

LET'S GET STARTED! (Click here to watch the video)

Blend 1/4 cup papaya cubes and 1/4 cup banana slices with 1-2 tablespoons of raw honey (Honey helps keep your hair frizz-free; smooth and soften hair) to form a loose, smooth paste.

Blend papaya, banana and honey for a DIY hair mask

Liberally apply the mask to dry hair, going from the root to the tips. IMPORTANT: secure with your non-damaging PONY-O bendable hair tie. Let's be real: if you’re using a damaging hair elastic to secure your hair, what’s the point of a hair mask for better hair health?

After 30-40 minutes, wash off the mask with a mild shampoo. It's important to wash off the mask from your hair properly to get rid of all the banana debris. (Leftover banana debris can cause irritation on your scalp and may worsen the symptoms of dandruff).

Condition, dry and style as usual, and prepare to be blown away by the moisture and shine in your hair!  You can apply once a week if you have time.
