PONY-O Ponytail Holders: How to Use PONY-O For Kids, Hairstyles + Tips

PONY-O Ponytail Holders: How to Use PONY-O For Kids, Hairstyles + Tips

When your daughter was born, maybe you put a cute headband with a bow around her head. And as she’s aged, it’s probably been fun to try different hairstyles and accessories. However, kids’ hair is generally more delicate and susceptible to damage before they hit puberty, so it’s important to help them take care of it.

One accessory that can help give your daughter a fun, yet easy style without damaging her precious hair is PONY-O

What is PONY-O?

PONY-O is the ultimate hair accessory when it comes to creating non-damaging, comfortable ponytails for kids and adults alike. That’s because it doesn’t stretch or pull on the hair — it bends hair into place.

The elastic hair ties you’re probably accustomed to stretch, and require you to pull and wrap hair tightly to keep a ponytail upright. This creates friction where the hair tie generally lays, and hair can break or fray. However, when hair is pulled too tightly, it can also be painful, and even cause headaches.

PONY-O is a non-stretchy silicone loop with soft teeth on the inside for holding hair in place. Just feed hair through and bend it into place!

There Are a Few Different PONY-O Styles (Plus, BUN BARZ!)

The classic PONY-O is for everyone — people with thick, thin, straight, curly, or textured hair. However, we also have a thinner version called PONY-O 2.0. The thinner style provides just the right amount of volume and hold for adults and kids with finer or shorter hair.

Both the PONY-O and PONY-O 2.0 come in neutral shades to match hair (from blonde to black), as well as bright colors, and standout prints.

If you prefer to put your kid’s hair in a bun, we also have BUN BARZ, which can be used with a PONY-O 2.0 to create salon-worthy buns at home.

Try These Hairstyles Using PONY-O On Your Kids

You can use PONY-O and BUN BARZ to create all kinds of hairstyles on kids. Seriously, all the other moms at school will think you have a glam squad at home! Once you get the hang of it, you can definitely experiment, but here are a few styles you and your daughter will surely love.

1. Classic Ponytail

You and your kids have never worn a ponytail like this before.

First, brush all of the hair back into a low or high ponytail (your preference) and hold it tight. With the opposite hand, hold the PONY-O with two fingers, and feed hair through. Hold the PONY-O close to the head, and let your ponytail fall. Squeeze the PONY-O flat, so it sits horizontally across the head. Finally, using your thumbs, bend each side of the PONY-O down to create a curve. (It’s important to bend each side on its own, not in one motion. Trust us, it’s just better.)

And there you have it! The perfect, classic ponytail for school, playdates, dance classes, soccer practices and more.

2. Half-Up Ponytail

For anyone, but especially girls with short hair who like a high ponytail, the half-up, half-down pony is a favorite. To do this style, you can repeat the same steps for a classic ponytail with PONY-O, but do it with only the top half of the hair on the head.

Tip: You can use a tail comb to create a straight part in the hair across the head, just above the ears.

3. Ballerina Bun

You can create stunning high or low buns in less than two minutes with BUN BARZ. But first, you’ll need to pull hair back into a low or high ponytail using a PONY-O, preferably the PONY-O 2.0.

Once hair is in a ponytail, center it between the BUN BARZ, and use two hands to clamp it tight. Next, gently pull the BUN BARZ down the ponytail, until you reach the shortest layer or just before the ends of the ponytail. Then, roll the BUN BARZ up forward, towards the top of the head. Once hair is completely rolled up, bend the ends back to create a full circle. (The ends should overlap.) Give the rolled up BUN BARZ a good squeeze and gently pull the rest of the hair around the BUN BARZ to make a full, beautiful bun.

Tip: If you want the bun to look a little messier, gently tug at a few strands of hair around the BUN BARZ.

4. Pigtails

Once you’re an adult, pigtails just don’t have the same cute factor. Reserve the fun style for kids and make it even more comfortable using PONY-O. To make pigtails, use a comb to part hair down the center of the head. Then, create a ponytail on each side using a PONY-O 2.0 and the same steps for the classic ponytail.

5. Space Buns

This style is out of this world (sorry, not sorry for the pun). Space buns are essentially high pigtails, but the bun-version. It works best with medium to long hair. To start, part hair down the middle and create two ponytails on either side of the head with two PONY-O accessories. Then, use two BUN BARZ to convert the ponytails to buns. The style is best worn  a little bit messy, so you can gently pull hair in the bun to rough it up a little once you’re done.

Tip: For an extra ‘90s vibe, you can use a tail comb to create a zigzag part in the hair before creating the pigtails.

6. Braided Ponytail

You can dress up any hair style by adding a braid. For a braided ponytail, start by French braiding from the front of the hairline. Then, once you’ve braided to where you want the base of your ponytail (let’s say this is a high ponytail, so the top-back of the head), pull all hair into a ponytail with the braid and hold it tight. Then, feed hair through the PONY-O and create your regular ponytail.

The braid helps hold back baby hairs better than a regular ponytail, and gives the style a little more edge.

But, braid or no braid, we guarantee that any of these hairstyles can make your mornings getting ready with the kids just a little bit easier. No more fussing with elastics that break or headbands that cause major headaches — just a soft PONY-O that will hold hair up throughout an entire school day.
