PONY-O Ponytail Holders Celebrates National Red Head Day

Happy National Redhead Day!

"In a world where you can be anything, be a fabulous redhead!"

If you’re a redhead or have a bestie who is a redhead, consider yourself blessed! Making up only 1 to 2% of the world population, red hair is the rarest natural hair color for humankind. When you combine those fiery locks with blue eyes, you get the rarest of the rare. At 10%, Ireland has the highest number of red haired people per capita in the world. One other fun fact is that natural redheads go gray more slowly than any other hair color.

WHAT CAUSES HAIR TO BE RED?

Scientifically speaking, red hair is a recessive genetic trait caused by a series of mutations in the Melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), a gene located on chromosome 16. 😆 This technical language makes red hair sound like it's a bad thing or unnatural, but it’s quite the opposite!

Red hair is attention-grabbing, sexy, feminine, spunky and really communicates strength. It’s no wonder that going red is the biggest color trend for fall.

RED HAIR IS THE BIGGEST COLOR TREND FOR FALL

There are so many stunning shades of red hair: deep burgundy, bright copper, auburn, burnt orange, red orange and strawberry blonde to name a few.

If you’re planning to hop on the redhead bandwagon for the fall season, be sure to choose a red that is complementary to your skin tone and eye color. For pale complexions, paler reds, golden coppers, ambers or apricots; for darker complexions, rich red brown shades, plum, chestnut or mahogany red shades.

Red hair is the perfect choice for the fall and winter because there is less exposure to the sun. All hair colors will oxidize and lose their luster over time, but this is more obvious with red hair, so keep in mind that making the switch to red hair will require more maintenance than blonde or brunette hair colors.

FAMOUS REDHEADS

Did you know that 30% of primetime ads feature a model with red hair? It also seems to be a color that opens doors of opportunity that might otherwise have been close like Lucille Ball, Emma Stone, Amy Adams and Isla Fisher. The world would be a lot more serious without these red heads.

BEE-ware!

Some scientific studies have found that bees are more attracted to people with red hair. This is one of the many strange facts about redheads. Research has found that it is most likely because of their hair’s resemblance to bright flowers. 💐🐝
